Sgt. Smith worked at
the closest court office to the World Trade Center, just blocks away from Ground
Zero. During the attacks he and his fellow officers manned the streets of New
York assisting emergency services to flow to the building. They were responsible
for evacuating a majority of the buildings in lower Manhattan. Stories of their
rescues can be read in the book.
Sergeant Smith was
also responsible for raising funds for the families who lost their loved ones.
This enabled them to go to the Police Memorial where they were honored. He is
now working to raise funds for F. O. P. Lodge 35, which will honor all of the Court
Officers involved in 9/11.
